Praise God - My Cholesterol

December 29, 2006

I just got the test results back for my cholesterol, and it is much better than the Dr. expected.

My cholesterol was at 361,very high. The Doctor started me on the lowest amount of Crestor and was expecting it to go down about 20 points for this first test. Well, to his suprise my total cholesterol went down 202 points! He actually hand wrote “Wow!” on the test result paper.

Praise God for His healing touch yet again!

The Priesthood and Land

December 28, 2006

We read in Joshua 14:4…

… they gave no part to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their common-lands for their livestock and their property.

Many in the dispensationalist camp still hold to a physical inheritance of land for the people of God. But can we get insight into this from the landless Levites of the OT? I think so.

Just as the Levites were the priesthood of the OT, so every believer is part of the priesthood of the NT…

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people… (1Pe 2:9)

As far as I know the regulation regarding the priesthood to not inherit land has never been abrogated.

One of the youth from my Youth Group asked me the other day about the song “In the Secret”/”I Want To Know You.”

The question was …

What do you think?

Personally I believe that the song In the Secret is more of a love song between a girl friend and a boy friend then it is a song between God and a Christian. Not once through out the entire song is the word God mentioned or anything that would make a non Christian know that the song is a song that is praiseing God.

I found that Challies Dot Com wrote a blog entry on this same song here, which is where i read the lyrics.

My response to her was …

Can something be Christian without mentioning God (eg: the book of Esther and the Song of Solomon)

Personally i think “undercover” Christian messages make for a very weak statement.

Can something be Christian without mentioning God (eg: the book of Esther and the Song of Solomon)

It’s one thing to do as Paul did and start by speaking to the culture of the time. But i don’t think it’s biblical to keep the discussion there and never move it to obvious Christian concepts.

What do you guys think?

Created in the Image of God

December 22, 2006

Mankind was created in the image of God…

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Gen 1:26)

There has probably always been discussions about “how” we are in God’s image. In this post i would like to focus in on authority and rule…

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (Gen 1:2 8)

Directly after our creation we are told to “subdue” the earth and that we have “dominion” over every animal.
This word “subdue” is from the Hebrew “kabash,” which means to bring into bondage.
This word “dominion” is from the Hebrew “radah,” which means to rule or dominate.

Ever since the fall we have had a turning upside down of this premise…

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. (Gen 3:17-19)

Creation itself now works against us. The Good News is that Christ came and redeemed us, He has started the new creation. Christ came to turn this sin-fallen world upside down, back to the original intent. And we as His Church are commissioned to the same…

…These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; (Act 17:6)

What are the implications of this aspect of the regeneration?
Are we subduing and dominating our environment?
Are we shaping and molding our environment or are we allowing our environment to shape and mold us?

Josh as a post on his blog on The Nature of the New Covenant.

I would recommend reading and commenting on this post. The nature of the New Covenant, especially as it relates to the New Covenant Community is key to how we define our beliefs on the visible church and credo vs. paedo baptism.

There’s a new class that i’m very excited about over on Biblical Training.
